Worried about LGBT issues? Help is available.

The Vicar's Letter in the March Burton News (page 10) generated several angry responses from readers in the April Burton News (page 2) to his comments about LGBT people. We understand that responses continue to come in for the May issue (due out 1st May) about the issue.

Anyone worried and in need of help or support, or just wanting more information about LGBT matters, may be interested to look at the work of Stonewall, the campaigning and support group for LGBT people, which we are pleased to be able to highlight here.

Stonewall offer a great deal of advice and support for those who need it: the contact details are on the website linked above. This covers all areas affecting LGBT people, and includes information on coming out, asylum, discrimination, civil partnership and same sex marriages, and parenting issues such as fostering, adoption, co-parenting, fertility treatment and surrogacy.

Card2Kendal Exhibition & Sale - 18th June 2016 at K Village, Kendal

Diary Date: Local artist Helen Pateman  (who hails from Burton and who did the wonderful artwork around the kids' play area behind the Memorial Hall) has been deeply involved in bringing the Card2Kendal exhibition to fruition, so please do go along and see it, and pick up a special piece of artwork for a small sum of money. The artworks are fab - a whole range of designs and themes by both professional and amateur artists, and some from famous name celebrities.

All funds raised will go to the flood appeal to help those who were flooded out in last December's Storm Desmond flooding.

The exhibition preview is 11th June, and the main exhibition and sale will take place on 18th June, at K Village in Kendal.

There is also still time to donate an artwork for the exhibition and sale if you feel like supporting this event - postcard-sized (6" x 4" / 15cm x 10cm) donations of artwork, photos, etc are being accepted up until Tuesday 7th June, here's how to send them in...

Nominate Morewood School in the Churchill Lollipoppers campaign

I just nominated Burton Morewood School, Burton in Kendal in the Churchill Lollipoppers campaign:
https://www.churchill.com/lollipoppers

Problem
Pedestrian injury is the leading cause of accidental death of children in Great Britain. Lollipoppers ensure the safety of children on their school run, but the numbers of lollipoppers have been falling year on year.

Solution
At Churchill we believe it's important that children can get to school safely so we've launched a fund to put more lollipoppers on the streets nationwide.

Action
Do you know a school that needs a lollipopper? Nominate your school for a chance to receive funding for a Churchill Lollipopper.

Yes! Burton Morewood School, Burton in Kendal would benefit from this... please would you support by nominating our village school for this opportunity? It will help keep our children safe.

https://www.churchill.com/lollipoppers  Nominations close 23.59 BST on 15 May 2016.
